Partner Nik Makarenko Served as Program Co-Chair and Partner Jay Eidex served as a featured speaker at the 2023 Insurance Law Institute
Partner Nik Makarenko served as program chair for the 40th annual Insurance Law Institute Seminar sponsored by Tort and Insurance Practice Section of the State Bar of Georgia which was held at the Ponte Vedra Inn and Club in Ponte Vedra, Florida. This year’s conference occurred on October 12-14, 2023. Nik currently serves as chair of the Tort and Insurance Section through 2023. This year’s conference featured speakers on a variety of topics of interest to law professionals with a focus on insurance related litigation with a specific focus this year on the state of the litigation environment in Georgia.
Partner Jay Eidex served as one of this year’s featured speakers and presented the topic of Phantom Damages. His presentation focused on litigation strategy to counter medical bills which which are entered at trial but bear no relation to the reasonable and customary charges or the usual amounts actually billed for the claimed procedures. Her drew on experience form recent trials where he has employed billing experts to counter the claimed amounts and feedback from the juries in those cases on how that testimony was received.
