Groth, Makarenko, Kaiser & Eidex is pleased to announce the promotion of Hannah Torbert Kennedy to partner, effective October 1, 2026. Based in the firm’s Birmingham office, Kennedy will oversee the firm’s operations in Alabama.
“Hannah brings substantial trial experience and a strong understanding of the needs of our insurance defense clients,” said Joseph Kaiser, GMKE’s managing partner. “We are pleased to welcome her to the partnership and entrust her with the leadership of our Alabama operations.”

Kennedy joined GMKE in July 2026. Her practice focuses on insurance defense, including personal injury and premises liability defense, professional liability, and civil and business litigation. Before entering private practice, she served as a deputy district attorney in Alabama’s 15th and 16th Judicial Circuits, prosecuting criminal matters that included felony and capital murder cases.
A Gadsden, Alabama, native, Kennedy earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama and her law degree from Samford University’s Cumberland School of Law. She is admitted to practice in Alabama state courts and the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Middle and Southern Districts of Alabama.
